When your company philosophy is to manufacture hi-fi products at sensible prices to facilitate faithful reproduction of music, naturally you will highly value attention to detail. That’s why Phil Freeman, CEO at Rega Research Limited, holds Rickard Keen partner Bill Gould in such high regard.
“There are so many accountants that wouldn’t care about what the business does, but just care about the work you give to them,” says Phil. “Bill isn’t like that. He makes an extra effort to get to know the business, and understand what we are doing. He’s an accountant, not an engineer, so obviously he doesn’t come in and try to pick up what we’ve dedicated our lives to learning, but he could tell you the differences between a CD and a turntable.”
According to Phil, Bill’s proficiency within his own technical remit is second to none. Rega have engaged the services of Rickard Keen for almost twenty years, after they were highly recommended. During that time Phil can’t recall a single occasion on which an error has been made, or a member of the team has failed to get back to them on a query.
“They claim to be top accountants, and that is the service you receive,” says Phil. “They are very attentive, particularly if we have urgent matters that need to be dealt with. That is exactly the type of organisation that we need and want to be working with.”
Rega was founded in the Seventies, but was conceived before that time, when founder Roy Gandy’s mother asked him if he wanted a record player or a television in the house. Roy begged for a record player, but his mother eventually decided on a television. Some years later his mother offered to help him out for two weeks when the business was starting up, and ended up staying with the company for fifteen years. Now the company employs 55 people, and manufactures a range of electronic equipment.
Rickard Keen act as auditing accountants for Rega, and also offer expert advice and assistance on an ad hoc basis, about various aspects of the business. According to Phil, Bill is always on hand to give advice whenever they need it, and has even helped out with the recruitment of an accountant to handle the firm’s day-to-day affairs.
“They will go over and above for the business,” says Phil. “As a client you pay for a professional service, which is what you get. On top of that, with Rickard Keen, you will get an attentive service from someone who genuinely cares and is interested in the business.”
