Christine Bhatt is the managing director of Systematics International Limited, a company that has gone through a challenging and exhilarating twelve months. The company actually has a 35-year history, after being a component of a large conglomerate – Metal Bulletin plc.

Systematics International specialises in data processing for the manufacturing sector. They work on behalf of the DVLA to process V55 forms, analysing and consolidating data. From this data they present market share evaluations and statistical information. They are also the sole agency collecting comprehensive information on shipments worldwide, working closely with the EU on highly confidential information.

As complex as this sounds, the functions carried out by this arm of Metal Bulletin were not one of the corporation’s core businesses. This meant that there was not as much scope available to invest in training, which, being such a specialised field, often takes between six and twelve months per member of staff.

Christine and her husband entered into negotiations with the company and finally, in 2007, completed a management buy out. Christine was delighted when her team members also came across to join the firm, who are currently based in Battlesbridge, Essex.

After the management buy out Christine began to look at areas in which the company could save money. They employed a full time management accountant, which was unnecessary now they were a small independent firm. Christine began to research local accountancy firms via the Internet and recommendations from friends.

“I looked at two other firms,” she says, “but I have to admit, I was extremely impressed with Rickard Keen. From the first meeting I had with Kate Davies and Noel Kelleway I could see that they are a people’s company. Instead of just e-mailing me through a quote, they came out to see me and got a good understanding of what we do so they could assess our specific needs. I appreciated that. Most importantly, they listened to what I wanted.”

Rickard Keen now take care of the monthly management accounts, the annual accounts and the payroll, as well as being available over the telephone for advice whenever Christine needs it.
