Ho, ho, ho for Noel
Noel Kelleway, a Rickard Keen partner, lived up to his festive name by donning a red suit, beard and wig to take part in Southend-on-Sea's Christmas Parade and lights switch-on.
Santa's sleigh was pulled by a team of real reindeer for the parade on Saturday, 19th November which was led by a marching band and included a 20 foot high genie and other characters from forthcoming pantomime Aladdin at the Cliffs Pavillion.
After the parade, which made its way from Southend College in Elmer Approach to the Royals Shopping Centre, Santa took part in a photo shoot and was even interviewed live on BBC Radio Essex.
Then it was a quick rest, drink and mince pie (Santa has to keep up his strength and his shape) and then up to the top of the High Street for the switch on of the Southend-on-Sea Christmas Illuminations.
He was joined on stage by Widow Twankey, the Mayor of Southend-on-Sea, Councillor David Norman and Heart Radio Presenters Martin Day and Su Harrison.
Following a countdown by the thousands watching, Councillor Norman, Santa and Widow Twankey plunged the switch for the big light up. Then it was down to the pier for a fantastic firework display.
For his efforts, the event organisers donated £150 to Noel's charity, Homeless Action Resource Project (HARP).
Noel said: "It was an experience I'll never forget. The High Street was lined with thousands of children and parents all enjoying the start of the festive season.
"The event was very well managed apart from the weather, as it seemed liked a glorious summer's day!
"I'd like to thank the organisers for inviting me to take part and for their generous donation to HARP."
